Yosef Zvi Geiger was a painter from Safed, in the Holy Land under Ottoman rule. He painted religious scenes and local life in a simple, heartfelt style. He lived and worked in Safed, a town famous for Jewish study. He is remembered as one of the earliest painters from the land of Israel.
