Ephraim Moses Lilien was born in Drohobych, in the region of Galicia, then part of Austria, and grew up in a Jewish family. He studied art in Kraków and Munich, and later lived in Berlin. He was an early artist of the Zionist movement and illustrated books with beautiful Art Nouveau designs. He died in Germany in 1925.
