An Allegorical Wedding- Sketch for a carpet dedicated to Mr. and Mrs. David Wolffsohn Triptych (from...
Ephraim Moses Lilien Β· 1906
Why it's great
A colorful design for a carpet, with symbolic figures celebrating a marriage. Ephraim Moses Lilien was a Jewish artist from Galicia, then part of Austria, who designed books, posters and carpets. He was an early artist of the Zionist movement and mixed Art Nouveau style with Jewish themes. It's a good example of how he brought together beauty and tradition.
