The Israel Museum
Israel's national museum sits on a hill in Jerusalem. It holds the Dead Sea Scrolls in the Shrine of the Book, archaeology of the Holy Land, Jewish art and a European art collection.
History of the museum
The museum opened in 1965, designed by Alfred Mansfeld and Dora Gad, and its Shrine of the Book, built to house the Dead Sea Scrolls, is shaped like the lid of a jar in which the scrolls were found. The campus was renewed in 2010.
