The Palace Museum (Forbidden City)
The Forbidden City, the home of China's emperors for almost 500 years, is now a museum with more than a million objects of imperial art, including paintings, ceramics and clocks.
History of the museum
Beijing's Forbidden City was built in 1406 to 1420 for the Ming emperor Yongle and was home to 24 emperors until the last emperor was forced out in 1924. The following year it became a museum. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the most visited museums in the world.
