Museum of Islamic Art, Doha
A bold geometric museum by I. M. Pei on its own island by Doha's waterfront, with manuscripts, ceramics, metalwork and textiles from three continents over 1,400 years of Islamic art.
History of the museum
The architect I. M. Pei, then in his 90s, picked the site on the sea himself so that the museum could not be built in. It opened in 2008 and became one of the most important museums of Islamic art in the world.
