Egyptian Museum
A rose-colored building in Tahrir Square holds the largest collection of ancient Egyptian objects in the world, with around 120,000 items.
History of the museum
The first museum of antiquities in Egypt was founded in 1835 to stop the export of its treasures. The present building opened in 1902. It had the treasures of Tutankhamun until they were moved to the Grand Egyptian Museum near the Giza pyramids.
