Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes
Argentina's national art museum, in the elegant Recoleta district of Buenos Aires, has the best collection of European art in South America as well as Argentine masters.
History of the museum
Founded in 1895 by the art critic Eduardo Schiaffino, it was first housed in a department store building. Its present building, once a water pumping station, was remodeled in 1933 for the museum. It holds works by Goya, Monet, Rodin and Van Gogh next to the best of Argentine painters.
