A Battery Shelled
Wyndham Lewis Β· 1919
Why it's great
Wyndham Lewis shows an artillery position under fire in sharp, blocky shapes, like a machine of broken glass. He had served as a gunner himself before becoming an official war artist, and he painted this in 1919.
