Anzac, the landing 1915
George Washington Lambert Β· 1921
Why it's great
Soldiers from Australia and New Zealand climb up a steep cliff under fire at Gallipoli, Turkey, in April 1915, a terrible campaign in World War I. George Lambert, an Australian war artist, painted this big picture after visiting the site. Each year, Anzac Day on April 25 honors these soldiers. It's a solemn and important picture for Australians.
