A reading by Emile Verhaeren
Théo van Rysselberghe · 1903
Why it's great
A group of writers and artists gather in a room to listen to the poet Émile Verhaeren read, in the soft light of a lamp. Théo van Rysselberghe painted this group portrait of his friends. Each face has its own personality. It's a picture of friendship and poetry.
