Germania
Philipp Veit Β· 1848
Why it's great
A woman in armor stands before the flag of a united Germany, wearing a crown, and holding a sword. Veit painted this in 1848 during a revolution when Germans hoped for a unified country. It hung in Frankfurt's parliament. It's a symbol of national hope.
