Madonna of the Rose Bower
Stefan Lochner · 1440
Why it's great
Mary sits in a garden of roses with the baby Jesus while angels play music and hold up a green cloth behind her. Stefan Lochner painted it in Cologne in about 1440, in a sweet, storybook style.
