The Artist's Mother Ane Hedvig Brøndum in the Red Room
Anna Ancher · 1909
Why it's great
An elderly woman in black sits upright in a red-walled room. Anna Ancher, a Danish painter, painted her mother with great love and respect. The strong red contrasts with her black dress. It's a moving portrait.
