Golden Summer, Eaglemont

Arthur Streeton · 1889

Why it's great

A golden Australian landscape of dry grass, gum trees and a faraway blue range of hills, in the heat of summer. Arthur Streeton painted this in 1889 in Eaglemont, near Melbourne, with a group of artist friends. It is one of the most famous Australian paintings. The bright light made it a favorite.
