L'Arrivée de Champlain à Québec
Henri Beau · 1903
Why it's great
Samuel de Champlain steps off a boat at Quebec in 1608 as he founds the city, while the shoreline is shown behind him. Henri Beau, a Canadian painter, painted this to mark the 300th birthday of Quebec City. It's a scene from the founding of New France. It shows how Canadians remembered their history.
