Luca Giordano Β· 1685
Why it's great
Mary and the baby Jesus sit under a canopy, with saints in front of them, in a flurry of bright colors. Luca Giordano painted it in about 1685, and he was known as the fastest painter in Italy.

Luca Giordano was a Neapolitan painter, born in 1632. He painted so fast that people called him Luca Fa Presto, Luca Work Fast. His huge, swirling ceilings and altarpieces decorated palaces and churches in Italy and Spain. He died in Naples in 1705.
