Saint Bonaventure's Body Lying in State

Francisco de Zurbarán · 1629

Why it's great

The body of a saint lies on a bier while a group of people in rich robes stand around, in a hushed, solemn room. Francisco de Zurbarán painted it in 1629, as part of a series about the saint.
