The Avenue in the Rain

Childe Hassam Β· 1917

Why it's great

A rainy New York street is lined with flags, glistening with reflections. Childe Hassam painted a series of 'Flag Paintings' during World War I, when the flags were hung to support the American cause. The rain makes the colors shimmer on the pavement. It's a famous American Impressionist painting.
