Dawn on the Ouse Trench

Maurice Galbraith Cullen Β· 1918

Why it's great

A gray dawn light shines over a battlefield, with trenches and bare ground. Maurice Cullen painted this as an official Canadian war artist. The quiet colors seem to show both beauty and sadness. It's a thoughtful war landscape.
