Biskra
Maurice Galbraith Cullen Β· 1893
Why it's great
A sunny, dry riverbed in the oasis town of Biskra in Algeria, with a faraway ridge and a few small figures. Maurice Cullen, a Montreal painter, traveled to North Africa and painted its vivid colors. He is best known for his snowy Canadian winter scenes. It's an unusual desert view by a painter of snow.
