The Death of Julius Caesar

Vincenzo Camuccini ยท 1798

Why it's great

Roman senators surround Caesar and lift their daggers, in a swirling, tense scene in the Senate. Camuccini painted the famous assassination of 44 BC with a clear, statue-like style. It's a famous episode that is still discussed. It's a classic of Neoclassical history painting.
