Tornado Over Kansas
John Steuart Curry Β· 1929
Why it's great
A dark funnel cloud twists toward a farm, as a family rushes to a storm cellar, with wheat blowing and animals in panic. John Steuart Curry painted the drama of a Midwestern twister. He was a leader of the Regionalist movement. It's among the most famous pictures of American weather.
