Palacio de Bellas Artes
A white marble and stained glass palace in Mexico City, famous as an opera and concert hall and for huge murals by Diego Rivera, José Clemente Orozco and David Alfaro Siqueiros on its walls.
History of the museum
Mexico began the Palace of Fine Arts under President Porfirio Díaz in 1904, but the revolution interrupted construction and it was not opened until 1934. The building mixes Art Nouveau and Art Deco, and after the revolution the government invited the Mexican muralists to paint the walls. Rivera's Man at the Crossroads was painted for Rockefeller Center in New York, destroyed there, and repainted here in 1934.
