Dust Motes Dancing in Sunbeams

Vilhelm Hammershøi · 1900

Why it's great

Sunlight streams into a quiet room and lights up the dust floating in the air, with a woman standing in the light. Vilhelm Hammershøi painted his own home in Copenhagen with soft grays and a calm mood. The glowing sunbeam is simple and magical. It's one of his best-known paintings.
