Summer Evening at Skagen Beach – The Artist and his Wife
Peder Severin Krøyer · 1899
Why it's great
A couple walks along the beach at dusk, as the sea and the sky glow in tones of blue. Krøyer painted himself and his wife Marie in the soft evening light of northern Denmark. The 'blue hour' of Scandinavia is a magical time. It's a lovely, gentle scene.
