Midsummer Eve Bonfire on Skagen Beach
Peder Severin Krøyer · 1906
Why it's great
A big bonfire burns on the beach at Skagen on Midsummer Eve, as the people gather around it. Krøyer's friends, the artists of Skagen, are among the crowd. The glowing firelight and blue twilight are magical. It's a famous picture of a Scandinavian tradition.
