Old man in front of children's graves
Osman Hamdi Bey · 1903
Why it's great
An old man stands in a graveyard, with children's graves nearby, in a sad and quiet scene. Osman Hamdi Bey painted this in 1903, and it's a strong picture of grief. The simple garden and tombstones are painted with great care. It's one of his best-known pictures.
