Girl Reciting Qur'an

Osman Hamdi Bey Β· 1880

Why it's great

A young girl in a long dress sits and reads from the Qur'an, in a quiet and peaceful scene. Osman Hamdi Bey painted this in the 1880s. The soft light and her calm face are gentle. It's a tender picture of faith and learning in Istanbul.
