The Terrace at the Hotel Louis C. Jacob in Nienstedten on the Elbe

Max Liebermann · 1902

Why it's great

Guests relax at tables on a shady terrace overlooking the Elbe River, with the sun speckling through trees. Max Liebermann painted this scene in the hotel that is still there in Hamburg today. The light and the leisurely mood are lovely. It's a gem of German Impressionism.
