Skagens Museum
A museum at the northern tip of Denmark where the sea and sky meet, devoted to the Skagen Painters, a group of Scandinavian artists who painted summer light on the beach.
History of the museum
Artists including P. S. Krøyer, Anna and Michael Ancher and Laurits Tuxen settled in the fishing village of Skagen in the 1870s and 1880s and painted the sea, the fishermen and the long summer evenings. They founded the Skagens Museum in 1908, and it opened in a yellow building on the town square. It holds the world's biggest collection of their work.
