Flowering Plants of Summer and Autumn
Sakai Hōitsu · 1821
Why it's great
Wildflowers and grasses sway in the wind on a pair of silver screens, with morning glories and bush clover. Sakai Hōitsu, a painter from Edo (Tokyo), wanted to continue the style of Ogata Kōrin. He painted the plants in soft colors. It's a lovely picture of the changing seasons.
