Knight at the Crossroads
Viktor Vasnetsov Β· 1882
Why it's great
A knight on horseback stops at a stone sign in a wide open steppe, with bones scattered around. The sign tells him there are three paths, and each has a danger. Vasnetsov painted this Russian tale of a hero making a choice. It's a beloved fairy-tale picture.
