A Reading from Homer

Lawrence Alma-Tadema Β· 1885

Why it's great

People in a Roman house listen to a reader as he recites the great Greek poet Homer, in a bright marble room with a view of the sea. Lawrence Alma-Tadema, a Dutch-born painter who lived in London, painted ancient life with every marble detail. The picture shows the love of stories that we still share. It's a beautiful scene of ancient culture.
