Madonna of the Cat
Federico Barocci Β· 1575
Why it's great
Mary sits holding the baby Jesus, while a cat looks up from the floor and the young John the Baptist teases it with a goldfinch. Federico Barocci painted it in about 1575, and the cat is very lifelike.
