Christ and the Woman Taken in Adultery
Pieter Brueghel the Elder Β· 1565
Why it's great
Christ writes on the ground with his finger while a crowd of angry people stand around, and a woman looks down in fear. Pieter Bruegel the Elder painted it in 1565, in shades of gray, and it shows the story, 'Let him who is without sin cast the first stone.'
