Judith and Her Maidservant

Artemisia Gentileschi Β· 1610

Why it's great

Judith and her maid hurry from the enemy tent carrying a sack with the head of the general, and look back at the sound of someone behind them. Artemisia Gentileschi painted it in about 1610, and the light of a candle makes it a thrilling scene.
