The Flight into Egypt

Annibale Carracci Β· 1604

Why it's great

Mary, Joseph and the baby Jesus travel over a river in a calm, golden landscape, led by a donkey and a guide. Annibale Carracci painted it in 1604, and this tranquil idea of landscape influenced later painters.
