Madonna with the Long Neck

Parmigianino Β· 1600

Why it's great

Mary sits with a long neck and a huge baby Jesus on her lap, while a row of angels crowds around and a tiny prophet stands in the back. Parmigianino painted it in about 1535, and the stretched, elegant shapes are deliberate.
