Self-portrait in a Convex Mirror

Parmigianino Β· 1523

Why it's great

A young man's face and a giant hand fill a round, bulging panel, as if he were seen in a shiny ball. Parmigianino painted this in 1523 when he was 21, using a real curved mirror, and the stretched hand is its most famous part.
