Martyrdom of Saint Sebastian
Antonio del Pollaiuolo Β· 1475
Why it's great
Saint Sebastian is tied to a tree and shot with arrows by six archers, each in a different, active pose. Antonio and Piero del Pollaiuolo painted this in 1475, and they studied how muscles work to get the poses right.
