Madonna of the Rose Bower

Martin Schongauer Β· 1473

Why it's great

Mary sits in a garden full of roses with the baby Jesus, while angels hold a crown above her head. Martin Schongauer painted it in 1473 for a church in Colmar, and the golden background makes it glow.
