Madonna and Child with Saints, Angels and Federico da Montefeltro (San Bernardino Altarpiece)
Piero della Francesca Β· 1472
Why it's great
Mary sits on a throne under a giant shell, with saints and angels around her and a duke in armor kneeling on one side. Piero della Francesca painted it in 1472, and an ostrich egg hangs from the shell to tell you how perfect she is.
