The Nativity
Piero della Francesca Β· 1480
Why it's great
Angels sing and play lutes beside the baby Jesus, who lies on the ground on a corner of Mary's cloak. Piero della Francesca painted it in about 1480, and an ox and a donkey look on, and the donkey brays at the top of his voice.
