Benois Madonna

Leonardo da Vinci · 1480

Why it's great

Mary smiles at her baby, who tries to catch a flower in her hand, in front of a bright window. Leonardo da Vinci painted this when he was about 28, around 1480, and it is one of the sweetest of all Madonnas.
