Ginevra de' Benci

Leonardo da Vinci · 1476

Why it's great

A pale young woman with curly hair stands before a juniper bush, and her gaze is cool and distant. Leonardo da Vinci painted her portrait in about 1476, when she was about 17. This is the only painting by Leonardo in the Americas.
