Mona Lisa
Leonardo da Vinci · 1503
Why it's great
A woman with a calm face and a faint smile sits in front of a hazy landscape of winding paths and rivers. Leonardo da Vinci painted it in about 1503, and it is probably the most famous painting in the world, so visitors to the Louvre crowd around it.
