Self-Portrait with Fur-Trimmed Robe

Albrecht Dürer · 1500

Why it's great

Albrecht Dürer looks straight at you with long curly hair and a fur-trimmed robe, in a pose usually used for Christ. He painted this in 1500, when he was 28, and he signed it with his monogram and a note that he painted it with his own hands.
