Morning in a Pine Forest

Konstantin Savitsky & Ivan Shishkin Β· 1889

Why it's great

Four bear cubs play on a fallen tree in a misty pine forest at dawn. Shishkin painted the trees and Savitsky added the bears, though the museum collector later erased Savitsky's name from the signature! The golden light filtering through the fog makes you feel the cool morning air. It is one of the best-loved paintings in Russia, famous even from candy wrappers.
