Portrait of Luca Pacioli
Jacopo de' Barbari · 1497
Why it's great
A monk draws shapes on a slate while a handsome young man stands beside him, and a glass shape hangs in the air. Jacopo de' Barbari painted it in 1497, and the monk, Luca Pacioli, was a famous mathematician who taught Leonardo da Vinci.
